The concept of "personal magnetism" is linked very closely to developing a better expression of oneself.
In order to achieve this better self-expression, however, we must often move past fears or reactions which lie beyond the control of our rational mind.
Blushing is an example of such blockages. Blushing is common among people who suffer from social anxiety.
Firstly, the issue one should keep in mind is the need to understand how blushing is felt and when it occurs.
It is in fact a completely autonomous reaction which is triggered off, on many occasions, by a word or by a situation.
Many people blush when they are called upon to speak in public, or when they meet persons of the opposite sex, or when they hear certain words.
Blushing is sometimes a self-fulfilling prophecy. A person might fear to blush and accordingly blushes. Charles Darwin defined blushing as "... the most peculiar and most human of all expressions".
At the time of blushing, a person normally gets disconnected from what is the true outward reality, and he/she becomes extremely self-conscious.
Attention is no more directed to the external aspects. Rather, the attention is focused on his/her blushing face.
We could say the following: Instead of being projected outwardly, to meeting and getting to know new people, energy, and specifically the energy of attention, turns inwardly and upwardly (towards the face).
Words will be of no help, and in fact the problem worsens many times through their use.
In several instances, a person affected by blushing will say to himself or herself something like "I hope I am not going to blush!". Words, however, will not solve the problem.
In addition, the perception of the body changes and the focus moves to the face and the so-called "blushing region".
We will now apply magnetic hypnotherapy so as to heal blushing.
Applying some magnetism and hypnotherapy might help balance out the relevant person and bring about the recovery of his/her harmony.
By the term magnetic hypnotherapy we denote a kind of therapy where we join together elements of classical magnetism and fascination, which are based on the following framework:
1 - Steering the subject towards harmony. Anxiety is a lack of harmony.
2 - The therapist, too, is personally involved in the system, and participates with his present being and with his vitality in the process of change. He is going to create an “energetic field”, together with the patient, by utilizing sensibility as his main tool in order to steer him towards well being. It means that, at the beginning, the therapist must be "in contact" with the client. This is achieved through his working on his own self, by keeping calm and feeling calmness inside.
Sensitivity is very much key to this kind of treatment.
Sometimes, in fact, blushing is linked to the parents’ regulating behaviour vis-à-vis their child. Accordingly, the therapist is required, by contrast, to create a rapport with the client. Words are not so important, though behaviour matters a lot.
The density of words is in fact lower than the density of gestures. The self is primarily verbal, whereas one's inward identity is primarily non-verbal. The body is non-verbal
With regard to the specific technique to be deployed, there are several possibilities.
A first such technique might consist in the use of the hypnotic gaze (fascination). Energy go where attention goes, and attention goes where eyes go.
It might seem strange that we use such a method as gaze, which is so related to interpersonal communication. In this case, however, the goal will be to reverse what happened in the past.
We could ask the person to look into our eyes and recall the time when he/she blushed, and as we will represent the center of his or her attention, we might work towards making him/her more conscious of his/her body and helping him stop the internal dialogue.
We are in fact capable, as we look at somebody in the eyes, of becoming part of his/her trance and changing it.
This very simple method was applied by Prof. Di Pisa. It might also include some words.
He used to look at a person and utter some useful word.
In that manner, he helped several people who were affected by a very strong degree of social anxiety, for example a Venetian engineer who would have otherwise risked losing his job had that problem not been overcome.
Another simple method one might possibly resort to, which might well be omplementary to the former, is to work with so called "magnetic passes".
Passes are movements we enact close to a person, without however touching him or her.
We must be aware of the fact that such passes have an impact on animals, too.
You should always bear in mind to follow your intuition and your gut feeling when you carry out those passes.
You must “feel” the client, as opposed to merely engaging in futile movements.
Sometimes, you will feel the need to move to a particular place or to do a specific pass. Do that.
Passes help establish a form of “resonance” (which is termed “rapport” in magnetism) with the client. Sensitivity will be our guide in the process.
This technique might likewise be very effective whenever we feel that recourse to the gaze does not suit the specific situation.
Passes are a classical method of working in accordance with animal magnetism.
We are able to list many possible reasons for their effectiveness when it comes to dealing with blushing:
1. Passes work on a pre-verbal level, and, since they are normally done by means of a downward motion, they work in the opposite direction compared to where we feel the blushing sensation.
2. Passes change our perception of boundaries (In actual fact, they are carried out at a distance from the body and yet they are felt), which thing is very important, given that blushing is connected to a sensation of "separation" from the environment.
3. Passes speak to the primal mind in a physical, non-verbal way, i.e. the only way by which our primal mind understands things. We might additionally use them so as to focus attention on a specific part of the body, such as the epigastrium, which is an area where a second brain is located.
4. Passes transform even the mental state of the operator, and make him more sensible to the subject: In magnetism, some form of synergistic activity ought to be felt by operator and subject.
5. Passes are SYMBOLS, and as such they help us gather our WILL.
The utilization of passes will enhance the feeling of being connected with the environment.
Smooth and slow passes which head towards the epigastrium should draw attention and energy onto the center of the body (approximately by the nombril).
We might legitimately view the nombril as hosting a kind of second brain. Plentiful nerves are to be found in this area. By channeling energy into it, the client will be assisted in finding a "safe position", one on which he might ground himself so as to rebalance his being.
There is no need to speak. Everything will be understood in a non-verbal fashion.
Some fast movements (which must always be carried out downwardly) will “seal” the treatment in a way which will in some cases be very fast.
It is of course understood that the operator should be willing to see the client getting well, and that he should let his intuition guide the speed of the passes.
He is naturally going to feel the moment at which the result will have been achieved.
The advantage of working with passes is that we are thereby enabled to halt the reaction at a pre-verbal level.
Lastly, the following third technique might also help ameliorate the results of the aforementioned treatments further. It is possible for such treatments to be taught to your client and even practiced by yourselves for the sake of tackling some minor issues:
1) Proceed to a mirror;
2) Look at yourself in the mirror (by the right eye);
3) Recall to your mind some moment when you blushed - What images are surfacing?
4) Let yourself drift about in this trance for a brief moment (e.g. 5 seconds). Thereafter, you should come back from it (refocus), in order to look with your eye only and observe the reality around you (Be also aware of your peripheral vision);
5) Change eye and repeat the procedure;
6) Repeat it again once or twice (Using both the right and the left eye).
NB: Do not change the pace of your breathing while you undertake this exercise.
This simple exercise will help you exit the "blushing trance" and be more present to reality.
In general, good results can be achieved within a time frame ranging from a single execution of the exercise to one week of practicing it.
If a person further works on presence and is able to stay in the now while enacting the foregoing, the results will be a lot stronger.
